Feline Blood Typing Rapid Test

Cat blood types are classified into three types—Type A, Type B, and Type AB—based on the antigens present on the surface of their red blood cells. Understanding a cat's blood type is crucial before blood transfusions and breeding.

Blood Transfusions: Before a transfusion, it is essential to ensure that the blood types of the donor and recipient match. If incompatible blood is transfused, the recipient can easily suffer a hemolytic reaction and may die.

Breeding: If cats with different blood types are mated for breeding, there is a chance that the kittens will have a different blood type than the mother. When the kittens ingest the mother's antibodies through the colostrum, they can develop Feline Neonatal Isoerythrolysis (FNI). In severe cases, an entire litter of kittens may die within a week.
